The co-opted Jubilee Secretary General Raphael Tuju into cabinet on a need basis is on the ground monitoring flood situation in Kisumu County.
 
Tuju is visiting areas affected by the floods to be able to advise the national government on the interventions to be taken.
 
Paying a courtesy call on the Kisumu Governor Anyang Nyong’o on Monday, Tuju said his visit to the families affected is to get first hand information on the situation.
 
Thousands of families are homeless, majority in evacuation centers after major rivers in the area, Rivers Nyando, Awach and Miriu burst their banks.
 
The heavy flooding has caused havoc to the communities who are now facing hunger and outbreak of water borne diseases.
 
Tuju said the government has in the recent weeks dispatched food aid to the affected families.
 
He said his visit will mean more aid coming to the areas affected and commended officers on the ground for quick intervention that led to evacuations.
