Kenya’s largest telecommunication network Safaricom has launched a new social network dubbed Bonga that is linked to the M-pesa service.
Launched under private beta on 26th April, after months of research ,Bonga is focused oncChat ,pay and play all on one screen which will see it becoming a conversational and transactional social network.
The application was developed by Safaricom’s Alpha innovation incubator headed by former iHub CEO, Kamal Bhattacharya.
Similar to social networks such as WhatsApp and WeChat that have integrated mobile payments into their platforms in order to make it easier for their users to carry out transactions this will be Kenya’s first when Bonga becomes available to the public.
Safaricom boasts of about 27 million customers across a network of 136,000 agents.
