Three of family dead, two hospitalized after gas cylinder explodes in Rarieda.

An explosion has killed three people leaving 2 critically injured in a family of 6. According to their neighbour, the explosion was as a result of a ‘leaking gas cooker’.
The tragedy occurred at the victims’ home inside their house as they were preparing their dinner on 8th of May, 2018 at around 8:30pm.
The victims identified as Mr. and Mrs. Omondi Adongo, who come from Rarieda village, Rarieda Constituency, Siaya County, lost their only son,Gift Gabriella aged 2, at the site of the incident while they and their two daughters; Whitney and Wendy Achieng’ Omondi were rushed to Russia Hospital, Kisumu County to seek further treatment.
Unfortunately, Mrs. Omondi Adongo (Madam Caroline), a ECD teacher at Rarieda Primary School and her daughter Wendy Achieng’ Omondi, a form three student at Rarieda Secondary School, succumbed to severe burn caused by the inferno four days later.
“The asperity of penetrating trauma sustained by the victims engulfed anyone entering the home of Mr. Adongo, their entire body had become frighteningly yellow and burns were fresh as could be imagined and one could pathetically and sympathetically feel the immensity of the pain they were going through,” Narrated Mr. Joshua Abondo, immediate neighbour.
“Detonation of Tuesday (8/5/2018), a conflagration so extreme that I first thought it was a plane crash that had set the “whole neighborhood ablaze” he added.
Mr. Omondi Adongo together with his daughter Whitney are still undergoing treatment at the hospital.
The bodies of the deceased, Mrs Omondi Adongo and Wendy are lying at Russia Hospital while that of Gift is at Madiany District Hospital, Rarieda pending their burial.
Their grandmother Mama Jenipher Adongo (the mother of Mr Omondi Adongo) has requested the well-wishers to help her raise funds to give the deceased a decent send off as well as pay the increasing hospital bills.
Mr. Gordon Ndiege, deputy headteacher, Rarieda Primary School and colleague to Madam Caroline (Mrs Omondi Adongo), appealed to Siaya County Governor Hon. Cornel Rasanga, area Mp Hon. Otiende Amollo, the immediate former Mp Eng. Nicholas Gumbo, MCA Ambrose Auma among others to come hand in hand to offer financial assistance to the bereaved family.

Dalvine Omondi, is the only survivor being that she was away on academic mission, luckily she departed from home in the morning of the day of tragedy.
