Homa Bay County Women’s Sacco plans to become the first women’s bank in Nyanza. The women’s sacco started in 2015.
Homa Bay’s county women representative Gladys Wanga is believed to be behind it’s conception after they realised that women from the county did not have title deeds to use as collateral to take loans from financial institutions.Currently the sacco has over 10,000 registered members.
Following a partnership with the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF) the Sacco was able to be granted a total of Sh5.5 million.
Currently plans are underway to turn it into a women’s bank. This will become the first women’s bank in the Nyanza region.
