Nyarach Secondary School will for the first time in the history of the school represent Rongo Sub County to the county Term 2 B ball games soccer after edging out Kangeso boys in penalty shootout in a stunning finals that was played at St.Johns Seminary Rakwaro over the weekend.
The match that was full of tension to see which team would represent the sub county in the county ball games to be held in Bondo Kosiemo Nyatike sub county mid this month attracted a capacity crowd who thronged the seminary grounds to watch the two football opponent play, saw Nyarach seize the coveted trophy by beating Kangeso 3-1 in the penalties.
The two teams came to a barren draw in the regular 90 minutes of play before going to the 30 minutes of extra time where it again ended in a barren draw.
Thanks to Nyarach goal keeper Brandon Ochieng alias ‘Mapunda’ who became a man of the match by saving three penalties from Celestino Mwango,Pherick Ochieng and Clinton Mwai before Fred Mboya,Calvince Odari and Colince Okwach ensuring that their kicks hit back of the net to win the converted trophy.
Nyarach Coach Abuya Meji expressed his elated moment over a good show of play from his team saying he is optimistic of representing Rongo Sub County well in the county level and even the region.
“I started preparing this team for the last three years and we have demonstrated that we can represent even the county in the national level. It’s an amazing feeling to win such a team as Kangeso,Koderobara and even Kanga who has been the defending champions of Migori and Nyanza region for two consecutive years,’ said Meji.
In the girls’ soccer, Tukjowi edged out Oyugi Ogango girls in finals to retain the trophy for the second time in a row by a solitary goal, thanks to Melani Anyango’s penalty kick in the 75th minute of play after Oyugi Ogango’s Synthia handed a ball inside the box.
In volleyball boys Kanyawanga showed their might by beating Kameji secondary school by three sets to nil in the thrilling finals wining 25-23, 25-21, 25-23 before Oyugi Ogango supplanting a hard nut to crack Sigiria by three sets to one.
Oyugi Ogango took the first set by 25-20 before Sigiria bounced back to narrowly win the second set 25-24.The third and the fourth sets were tensed as both team displayed a strong will to win the game Oyugi Ogango however showed their mighty by capitalizing on their superior spiking techniques to win both the sets as it showed a repeat of last year’s finals where Oyugi Ogando beat Sigiria by three sets to one.
In the soccer semifinals men, Nyarach edged out Kanga by 4-0 in penalty shootouts before Kangeso beating Kameji 2-1as Oyugi Ogango hit St.Jonathan 2-0 with Tukjowi hammering Lehesisia 2-0.
In volleyball semifinal girls Oyugi Ogango thrashed Tukjowi 3-0 sets before Sigiria beating Kameji 3-0 and in the volleyball boys Kameji beat Koderobara 3-1 as Kanyawanga milked Kanga 3-1 sets to qualify for the finals of the games.
